Quadrant 4 - Processes

The fourth and last quadrant focuses on those processes that directly impact efficiency. The reason why quadrants one to three have their scores is found here. Human behavior, or processes if behavior is defined as real processes, is responsible for the decisions that have been made so far.

This is decisions concerning IT hardware procurement, IT hardware depreciation, air-temperatures on the data center floor, tuning the cooling system, the load on the UPS, the over-capacity on storage, the (mis)alignment between the facility and IT teams, and much more.

These KPI’s are defined:

  • Change and Configuration Management are related to the ITIL processes Change Management and Configuration Management. You should plan and perform changes according to an agreed plan and the current configuration of your data center and IT must be documented. Read more…
  • Product Lifecycle Management has the full lifecycle of IT and facility assets are in scope. Is energy usage part of the procurement criteria? Do you have the power draw vs. relative capacity factor as part of the ROI? Read more…
  • Capacity Management is the process that supports the third quadrant. Know the past capacity utilization trends, the current utilization and forecasted capacity changes to be prepared for the next steps to take and to reduce the amount of over-capacity. Read more…
  • Service Level Management is required to align the delivery of the service to what was requested and/or agreed upon. Read more…
